Want to create that WOW factor by using props in your Personal Branding Photos to stand out from the competition?
Although you may not have thought about it before props can be used to take your Personal Branding Photos to the next level. Of course you’ll get the best results when you combine props with the right outfit, so make sure you read up on What to Wear for Your Personal Branding Photos too.
Whether you’re struggling to tell your personal story though images, share the benefits of your product or service or simply show us more of your personality, the right props can throw a powerful punch when it comes to the overall picture (pun intended!).
Words will always matter but when it comes to social media it’s often the photo or image that catches your audience’s attention before they even start reading. That’s why it’s smart to use whatever tools and resources we have available to create eye catching visuals.
Where do you start when it comes to choosing props?
- We’ll start with one of the most obvious types of prop. Your tools of trade are a great way to show your clients exactly what it is you do. For instance using your phone, computer, camera, massage table, watering can, makeup brushes, recipe book, sewing machine or for sale sign can show your audience a day in your life or take them on a little journey behind the scenes.
- The products you sell are another obvious prop. Your thermomix, oils, skincare, dolls clothes, jewellery, whatever it is you sell, can be used in your Personal Branding Photos. Show your clients the benefits of your product by making a smoothie with your thermomix, or packaging your dolls clothes to be sent off to their new home. Share an image of you working with your oils diffusing on the desk beside you. Dress up as if you’re going out wearing a beautiful piece of jewellery you made.
- Props in your Personal Branding Photos can also be used to share something a little more personal. Put your favourite lollies in a big jar, a drink bottle with an inspiring quote on the side, a coffee mug to show that’s how you start every day. Pop your favourite flowers in a vase, this list could go on forever there are so many possibilities.
- Use props to show us the area you work or live in. What’s on your desk. What artwork is hanging on your walls? What does a workshop with you look like? What’s in your studio or clinic?
- Think about your hobbies. Do you play an instrument? Do you listen to music or podcasts – we want to see those bright pink headphones. Do you cook, scrapbook, hike, paint or draw? Do you love astrology or tarot cards?
In my opinion props are one of the easiest ways, besides your outfit, to show us your unique personality. It allows your clients to see the real you, but without giving away too much of your personal life.
I’d love to know what props you’d include in your Personal Branding Photos. Are there any I haven’t mentioned here?
Next week we’ll take a look at why it pays to plan for the ‘perfect’ shoot.
Till then,
Amanda
