Anyone who says your outfits for your Personal Branding or Headshot photos have to be corporate or tailored is a tad out of date when it comes to the modern way of doing things.
In fact, in a world where there is so much competition, thanks to social media, it actually pays to be different. If that means wearing bright, bold colours then I say go for it, if that’s your usual style.
If you’re more of a flowy, floral kind of woman, or a jeans and white shirt girl, then wear that.
You get the idea, whatever it is you love to wear, that’s what you should bring to your Personal Branding or Headshot Photo Session.
The key to fabulous Personal Branding or Headshot images is to show the real you. That’s why one of my main goals when it comes to photographing you, is to highlight your personality, and in my experience the clothes you wear for your photo shoot are the perfect first step towards getting this right.
Of course I’m not suggesting you turn up wearing the clothes you love to lounge around in bed or go for a run in. Unless of course they are part of your brand. If you habitually turn up to zoom meetings or answer your door to clients in your Oodie or trackies then who am I to say you can’t wear them for your photos.
But if PJs and a hoodie are not your usual ‘business’ attire then maybe give them a miss for a more ‘professional you’ outfit, when it comes to your Personal Branding or Headshot images. Now instead of dragging that old corporate blazer out of the back of the wardrobe, or donning the casual tee you wash dishes in (wait does anyone wash dishes anymore??), I recommend you choose clothes you love AND that you would greet your clients in.
Of course we can always sneak one or two ‘bedroom style’ shots in there if you want something a little raunchier or laid back. And I do highly recommend getting a couple of photos of yourself ‘just because’ that are not solely for business branding purposes; in fact these ones might even be for your eyes only that you frame for your bedroom wall, give to your partner as a desk print or if it’s classy enough as a gift to your mum. We could even do a series and make you a ‘little black book’.
But before I get too off track and go on about the benefits of boudoir photos (I’ll talk about my ‘Celebration Photo Sessions’ another day) let’s get back to the main topic – the clothes for your Personal Branding Images. The ones you would wear on a zoom meeting, to a networking event, a lunch date or out to dinner.
Another great choice is your uniform which is perfect for behind the scenes shots, and to let your audience get a little peek into how and what you do.
One of the many amazing benefits of choosing a Personal Branding Photo Session with Amanda Meryle Photography (that’s me!) is that you’ll have time to be photographed in multiple outfits.
Even my shorter headshot photo sessions can give you a variety of looks if planned strategically – and yes, before you need to ask, I help you plan for any photo session with me. Why? Because I want you to get the best return on your investment, as well as feel like a million dollars! Believe it or not, that happens even to my most camera shy clients because I’m also going to help you feel comfortable as well as amazing AF.
In short, what I’m saying is you should choose clothes that scream out who you are. Or at the very least the ones that whisper your name with pride.
What you want to avoid at all costs is looking just like everyone else. After all it’s your uniqueness that people want. How else are they going to choose you from your competitors? In fact if you show your difference you won’t have any competitors because no one else is exactly like you.
Unless of course, you’re a private detective and blending in is what your clients want (insert laughing emoji). But for most of us that’s not the case, it’s in your best interest to use your personality and style to help you stand out from the crowd.
Now tell me, after reading this, what is the one must have outfit you’ll be wearing to your Personal Branding Photo Shoot?
Till next week,
Amanda x
